"The Narrative"

Category: University Project

Brief

As part of my second-year studies at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, I was tasked with creating a photographic image that tells a story.

Concept

I chose to explore the global COVID-19 pandemic, portraying a nurse as a symbol of resilience, exhaustion, and sacrifice. The globe was used as a metaphor for the world in need of care, held closely as though it were a fragile child.

Execution

I directed my mother as the model, guiding her to act the physical and emotional toll of frontline workers. Styling was assembled from home: a white shirt, protective mask, gloves, and goggles. Makeup recreated the bruising caused by PPE, referencing images of real healthcare staff. I presented the final work in black and white to emphasise raw emotion and humanity.

Outcome

The series acts as a visual tribute to healthcare workers, reflecting the unseen challenges they faced during the pandemic and the strength they gave to protect the world.
